Hi, and welcome to Brief Talk, episode three, proudly brought to you by Everyday Lingerie Co. So hopefully by now, you've had a chance to watch episode one and two. Today, we're actually going to be talking about a really special topic. It's October, which means it's National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. That is a subject that's really near and dear to us at Everyday Lingerie Co. and for me personally. I want to start by sharing some stats with you. The stats are absolutely staggering of what happens with this awful illness. The stats are eight women will die every day in Australia from breast cancer. One in 675 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer. It's the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia. 53 Australians are diagnosed every day with breast cancer. So we teamed up with the crew at the National Breast Cancer Foundation to give back where we can to this amazing charity, to really help work through what they're doing.
They've done some amazing things for breast cancer already, and they've got so many more boxes to tick off their list. So just to give you an idea, what their aim is, their aim is for zero deaths by 2030. That is the mission of the National Breast Cancer Foundation. They are currently, by funding and identifying and championing world class research to actually work towards that aim. Since 1994, the National Breast Cancer Foundation has actually awarded more than 170 million dollars in funding over 534 Australian based research products. And in this time, survival rates have gone from 76% to 91%. It's absolutely amazing the work they have done already and it's one of the reasons why we wanted to partner with them as part of our give back program at ELC. We wanted to ensure we had someone that we could align ourselves with to give back to as part of our give back program internally, but also something that rang true to our thoughts and beliefs within what was being done.
So for me, the journey with National Breast Cancer Foundation actually started a number or of years ago when I started an annual charity called The Women in Wink lunch when I was working for a company, an amazing Australian company, in the bedding industry called Forty Winks. Now this luncheon was created by myself and a number of senior store owners who really wanted to do something. We wanted a chance to get together as a group of women within that business, but do something a little bit differently. Rather than getting a lunch out of it, we wanted to buy a lunch and give back from it. And it was after speaking to everyone around the office, so there was about 23 of us who worked in head office, I think it was, and every single person, every one of my colleagues from the CEO down had a story that related back to breast cancer.
Unfortunately, some of my colleagues had lost parents, friends, family members to it, or their parents had fought and survived, which was amazing. I myself was witnessed to when my mom had a scare at one point in her life, and it was a horrible thing to see how much hurt and just what those families had gone through. And the thing about giving back is most of the time you'll never actually know that person, their name, who they are, what their story is, but they all need our help. And collectively, we can do so much. On our own, we can do little bits. But it's all about giving back wherever we can. So I really wanted to ensure that for my business, that we gave back to a community that supports us. So when I was thinking about it, I had a list of a number of charities and they were all very worthy, but it was what about rang true for me.
And having worked with National Breast Cancer Foundation when we were running this annual luncheon, and I knew that they were someone that I truly believed in their mission, as I said. Having seen so many people affected by it and talking to potential customers in the lead up to when we launched, we had customers in there who were fighting to survive from breast cancer. Thankfully, a number of those women did it. Unfortunately, we lost two customers along the way, which is truly heartbreaking. So to be able to team up with something like this is amazing. So when it comes to our body mist and our lingerie wash bag, we donate a percentage of the proceeds from every single sale.
So there's something you can do to help us with that and that's when you're shopping, when you get to that point where you're about to check out, if you can afford it, please help us by selecting either a lingerie wash bag or a body mist fragrance to add to your cart, so we can continue to drive this mission to actually give back to our community and in part, the National Breast Cancer Foundation. So thank you so much for joining me on episode three. It's a short one today, but we really felt like we needed to talk about the National Breast Cancer Foundation and what we are doing to give back to them and definitely raise awareness to National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, this month in October.
There's so many different things you can do locally, whether it's having a morning tea or doing some form of fundraiser yourself to get together with your girlfriends, if need be virtually at this point, but to really get behind a charity that is either aligned with this one, or is this one, or one that you choose. Together, we can definitely do this all together. Thank you so much for joining us on episode three. We look forward to chatting to in episode four, which we're going to delve into the world of Photoshop and photo editing and why we've chosen to be a Photoshop-free brand at ELC. So thank you so much. Look forward to you joining us then, and please, when you're checking out, if you can add a wash bag or a body mist, if you can, that would be great so we can continue to give back as well. Stay well, stay safe. See you in episode four.
Trying to find the right underwear size can be difficult due to different companies making different sizes. To make things easier we have created a step by step guide to take the guess work out of the equation.
Below we have measuring instructions with images to assist you.
All you need to do is take a couple of simple measurements; your waist, your lower waist and your hips. The best way to do this is by using a soft measuring tape and a mirror to ensure you are accurate. If possible stand in front of a mirror when taking your measurements to ensure that the measuring tape is also parallel to the floor and is flat.
Your waist is the natural in indentation above your hips or just below your rib cage (see image). Wrap the soft measuring tape around firmly without pitching your skin together – write this measurement down.
Your lower waist is approx. 12cm down from your waist. Take your measuring tape and run this down from your waist to 12cm (see image). Wrap the soft measuring tape around this area firmly without pitching your skin together – write this measurement down.
Now wrap the soft measuring tape around the fullest part of your hips, this is approximately 25cm below your waist (see image). Use the mirror to check that your measuring tape is completely straight and parallel to the floor – write this measurement down.
All you need to do is take a couple of simple measurements; your Full Bust and your Lower or under bust. The best way to do this is by using a soft measuring tape and a mirror to ensure you are accurate.
Your Full Bust is the fullest part of your bust (see image). Ensure that the measuring tape is completely straight and parallel to the floor. Wrap the soft measuring tape around firmly without pitching your skin together – write this measurement down
The Lower or Under bust is measured by wrapping the measuring tape around your rib cage directly under your bust (see image). Wrap the soft measuring tape around firmly without pitching your skin together – write this measurement down
